What your car is probably telling you.
None of this replaces looking at the vehicle, and a symptom can have more than one cause. It is here so you walk in knowing roughly what you are dealing with instead of finding out at the counter.
- A squeal when I brake
- Often the wear indicator on the brake pads doing its job — a small metal tab that squeals against the rotor once the pad is getting thin. Worth booking soon rather than urgently.
- A grinding noise when I brake
- Different problem, and less patient. Grinding usually means the pad material is gone and metal is meeting the rotor. The longer it runs, the more likely rotors join the bill.
- The car pulls to one side
- Alignment is the common cause, but uneven tire pressure, a worn suspension component or a sticking brake can all do it. It is worth having looked at because it also eats tires.
- The air conditioning blows warm
- Most often refrigerant that has leaked out over the years rather than a failed part. The fix is finding the leak, not just topping it up, or you are back next summer.
- The check engine light is on
- A steady light means have it read in the next few days. A flashing light means stop driving and call — it usually signals a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter quickly.
- It shakes at highway speed
- Classic wheel balance, and it often shows up after new tires or hitting a pothole. Balancing is a quick job; ignoring it wears the suspension.
- It is slow to start on cold mornings
- Battery and charging system first. Pennsylvania winters find a weak battery every year, and testing it takes minutes.
- There is a sweet smell after driving
- That is usually coolant, and it means it is escaping somewhere. Worth looking at before it becomes an overheat on Route 11.
In Bloomsburg you need a safety inspection, not an emissions test.
Columbia County is one of Pennsylvania’s non-emissions counties. A vehicle registered here needs the annual safety inspection only, which includes a visual check that the factory emissions equipment is still fitted. It is the address the vehicle is registered to that decides, not where you have the work done.
| County of registration | What it needs | |
|---|---|---|
| Columbia | Safety only | One sticker. This is us. |
| Montour · Northumberland | Safety only | Same as Columbia. |
| Snyder · Union | Safety only | Same as Columbia. |
| Luzerne · Lycoming | Safety + emissions | Two tests. We are certified for both. |
| Not sure? | Read the county off your registration card and call (570) 784-4220. | |

05
The common questions, answered.
How do I book a repair?
Phone, text, or walk in. You can wait with the vehicle or drop it off, and there is a secure key drop for after hours with contactless options either way.
When do I find out what it will cost?
Before the work. We diagnose the fault, write an estimate to repair it, and contact you by whichever method you prefer with the cost and a projected time of completion.
How do I know the repair was actually needed?
Our inspections are digital. You get photos or video of the part we suspect, and proof the repair was made. Receipts and the media can be viewed and shared.
What is covered by warranty?
Parts we install that use a NAPA product carry a 2 year / 24,000 mile parts and labor warranty, good nationwide. Warranty varies by part and most carry a lifetime warranty; labor is still 2 years. Workmanship and parts are 100% guaranteed — if it is not correct, we will fix it.
Does the work show up on the vehicle history?
Yes. Available repairs are reported to CARFAX.
How do I pay?
Cash, check, debit or credit at the counter, or online through a secure link.
Do I need an emissions test in Bloomsburg?
No. Columbia County is one of Pennsylvania’s non-emissions counties, so a vehicle registered here needs only the annual safety inspection, which includes a visual check that the factory emissions equipment is still fitted. If your vehicle is registered in Luzerne or Lycoming County it does need an emissions test as well — it is the registration address that decides, not where the inspection is done. We are certified for both.
How long does a Pennsylvania state inspection take?
Plan on the vehicle being with us for part of the day. You are welcome to wait or drop it off. If the inspection turns up something that needs repair, we tell you what it is and what it costs before we touch it — an inspection never turns into a repair bill you did not agree to.
Do you work on all makes and models?
Yes. Domestic and import, cars, trucks and SUVs. If a job genuinely needs a dealer-only tool or a factory procedure we do not have, we will tell you that rather than guess at it.
